Now to follow up on the same idea, I add in milestones and the issue rears its ugly misleading head yet again.
I have spent a fair amount of time struggling with this Project Progress and I have another example with some REAL examples.
I have a new project that I have allocated 40 hours of programming time to. It began on 2008-05-13 and ends on 2008-05-31.
Here is the actual layout of my project with corresponding tasks.
Task 1 – Programming – Start 2008-05-13 End – 2008-05-31 Effort - 40 hours
Milestone 1 – Customer Visit - Start 2008-05-22 End 2008-05-22 Effort - 0 hours
Milestone 2 – Ship Date - Start 2008-05-24 End 2008-05-24 Effort - 0 hours
Milestone 3 – Install Date - Start 2008-05-28 End 2008-05-28 Effort - 0 hours
Milestone 4 – Final Approval - Start 2008-05-31 End 2008-05-31 Effort - 0 hours
As you can see, I have 1 TASK and 4 Milestones. A milestone in my world is a meaningful moment in the life of a project that gives direction and goals. It has NO TIME associated with it and there is nothing for me to do for it other than have my programming ready by them.
When I am 100% complete with my 1 and only task, my progress shows 20% complete. I have 0 hours allocated for each of the 4 milestones yet they affect the overall project progress.
I can’t imagine why I see this as an issue or a problem.
For reference, I've purchased the Corporate Edition and have it installed on my own server.
Here is the link to my previous post about this.

Hi,
We can change this under customization if you like, but as per my last post on the same topic, we will only change functionality when it has been popularly requested. In this case it has not.
Are you setting your milestones to 100% when they are reached? This would reflect a more accurate project %.
Get in touch if you would like to make the change. |
