In the previous version of Copper, Archived projects were listed in each Client's Project tab.
In the current version, the Archives are in the main Project heading, and list all the projects for all the clients. For us, this currently means 29 screens of archived projects, and this will only get longer.
I frequently need to find archived projects without knowing exactly what the project was called. Hopping around through 29 pages of archives is very cumbersome. Is there any way to show the archived projects for only one Client at a time? |

Unfortunately, this function was (for a long time) outside of any other interface convention within Copper, and was causing confusion and was one of the things we removed/combined when we reworked the interface.
Like active projects, you can use the archived projects link and sort by clients.
Better yet, use the new AJAX search to find anything within copper within seconds. |

Okay, I understand why it was changed and I can work with it, but I guess I'd like to make a request for any future versions to either make the Search function more versatile, or somehow make Archive Projects listable per client again, the way active projects already are. Let me give you an example to illustrate the difficulty I'm having and why this would be so useful for me.
We currently show 29 screens of archived projects. I have it set to display 25 projects per screen, which is about as many as the network likes to handle before becoming irritatingly slow.
We have two very large clients. One, who we'll call Sterling Hotel, claims 13 pages of those 29. That's almost 325 archived projects for that single client.
The default sort for archived projects is by Client, and that's fine, because it doesn't take too long to at least find one of the 13 pages, and I can go from there. But I might have to look at every one of the 13 pages before I can find the project I need, say, a brochure.
As I mentioned before, I rarely know the exact title of the project (artists come up to me and ask "hey, do you know that brochure we worked on for the Sterling three months ago? Do you have some way to tell me how many copies we printed?") Therefore, using the site's Search function does not help, because we do brochures for all our clients, and I would probably pull up even more than 13 pages worth of brochures. (Just checked. 19 pages.)
Searching for "Sterling Brochure" doesn't work because maybe the project was called "New Amenities Brochure." The word "Sterling" isn't included in the project title because it's already listed under the name of the client.
If there was an advanced feature on the Search function, where we could type in client name, and then a keyword for the project, or even a date, that would be a huge help.
Or just somehow gain back the ability to display archived projects for just one client at a time. Then I could request that it display "All" projects on one screen, and use my browser's "Find On Page" search to pinpoint the project I need.
Not the most elegant solution, I know, but it would save me a ton of time.
In fact, a more advanced Search feature would also solve some of my other difficulties.
Don't get me wrong - you guys do great work and having this system has made life easier around this office. Thanks for your hard work! |
