We have some projects that become a recuring project. It would be nice to be able to have a repository of project templates for lack of a better name. Were one could take a project template and create the Project for a particular run. One that had all the expected defaults and tasks, whatever, that was needed previously.

Thanks,
Ric

A "Save project as template..." option would be a VERY nice feature. That way CP2004 users could use CP2004 as an integrated part of their processes rather than as an add-on component added to our workflow. Then you could just add a "Print to PDF..." option and we could originate projects in CP2004 rather than just add the data into CP2004 later.

Out of all of the requests, this one would be the most useful to business processes rather than just an improvement to project management.

This is a REALLY good idea, Ric.

Some of the nascent open-source collab projects have adopted the ability to "copy" an existing project, which one then goes in and edits to suit the requirements of the new clone - effectively making any project a potential "template". Different path to the same destination, perhaps.

Being able to create and use project templates is a must for any project management software. I did not realize this package did not have when purchased. It would save so much time that I am currently wasting typing in the same tasks over and over. This feature really needs to be added to the next upgrade to make this a fuller function package

synessence has it in one.

version 2.5 will include the copy Project/Task function that is currently top on everyones list. It will enable you to set up your own project templates (complete with tasks and allocated users) or even create a master project with common tasks that can be copied out to new projects.

We're also looking to refine how permissions are managed, with the introduction of groups AND the ability to set permissions on project creation. This would mean your project templates could also house the relevant permissions (be they role or person specific).

In addition, this provides the opportunity for customers to 'share' their project methodologies, or for us to pre-bundle copper with popular project templates. You could feasibly export these template projects to a database schema that others might upload. Perhaps a little further down the track Smile

thanks.
Ben.

Ben, Could you elaborate on how to set up project templates, or copying old projects? I see the copy button on the project page, but I'm not seeing how to create a new project with that "copy". Clicking "New Project" doesn't show me any option for pasting the copied version. Am I missing something obvious?

When you click copy project, Copper creates a new project with the same details and presents the edit screen for you to make any changes and hit save. No need to Paste as such.

To clear this, in our new version we append the word "copy" to the new project Smile
