My company has just installed and begun testing Copper Enterprise, and I have found that the assumption we have "Clients" and not "Departments" seems to be an unnecessary limitation.
It would be nice if under Administration you could simply set a checkbox that asked "Are you using Copper to manage internal projects, or projects for clients?" This would change all the nomenclature throughout the application from "Clients" to "Depts".
Right now I have configured "Clients" that are equivalent to each of our departments. That way the people in Production (we are a garment manufacturer) can limit their view to only projects that are related to their department. Otherwise, they would have to wade through all the projects in all other departments, just to see what they have going on.
This is also going to be a training issue for me as I train my staff on how to use Copper.
It seems that if this tab or nomenclature were generalized, or were "rename-able" as I described above, it would broaden the potential market for the product as well. |

Hi CJ,
We develop Copper to be most suited to certain organisations, however also allow the flexibility to customize the tool to suit others.
As such there is no real limitation here, you can rename 'Clients' to 'Departments' via the language files in the Clients module. (To rename the Module name in the menu, you'll need to rename this in the database.)
If we added the multitude of customizability to the admin system it would be really unruly, however as we continue to develop Copper we'll add those things that are most-requested (e.g. the addition of currency code and email notification settings in the most recent Corporate release).
I hope this helps! |
