We have noticed that it is taking a really long time for the Flash to completely load in the task view (and for some reason this is stalling Firefox, so you can not edit other sections of the page until it loads).

Can some optimisation be done to make this quicker?

Seems fine on our demo accounts and we've no other complaints, could you get in touch with your version # and some way to replicate on our demo?

We are using version 3535, but I would say it is due to us having 19 staff and a 743 tasks in 111 projects with 2,963 comments.

Still strange, as we've tested beyond those metrics. There is one php.ini setting that can speed things up (memory allocation)

Can you please get in touch, maybe we can run the data up on our servers and see how to improve the speeds.

We will try the memory allocation increase - I am not in a position to give you access to our data.

I don't know if this would be relevant to your situation, but I found that ensuring all tasks have start/finish dates helps greatly.

I think that is exactly it. We often only assign a finish date (dead line) as we don't mind when people start, as long as they reach the due date. But doing this makes the available dates in the 2000+ range in the Flash. It should only allow from the current day to the end date to be seen/tasked.
