Hi - a quick question.

When we create a New User we have 2 options for rates. The first being Cost - the second being Charge. We're presuming that Cost, is what (for example) an employee may cost us p/hr and that Charge is what we charge them out at p/hr - the difference potentially being our profit. What we are unable to work out is where the 'Cost' benefits us in the system. It does not seem to turn up in reports, or within the project budgets at all. The Charge rate comes out (when someone is a resource) once hours have been added to a task. Is there something we're missing with the 'Cost' rate. Also, what does the default hourly rate connect with?
Thanks - oh, and we love the current update

At the moment charge rate is the rate used when budgets are shown, other than in the Invoice section where you see a 'cost' column.

Thanks Ben - appreciate the help. We do not use the billing module very often, so had not found it there. As always, we appreciate your communication.

Well I agree with Dozer.

I think it would be more useful to have the actuel budget (in the project and task screens) calculated from the resource cost rate rather than from the resource charge rate.

This way we could see the profit or loss immediately (red and green color would be great here).

What do you think ?

Best,

Felix

felixx's suggestion is brilliant; can we expect it in a future version of Copper?

I think so, we'll have to wait until we've specified the next batch of changes, but the budgeting/billing side is certainly up for refinement.

Hopefully this would be a per-installation customizable setting...we wouldn't want 90% of our users dealing with information based on employee salaries. Our project managers need to see billed rates vs budgeted cost, while having a report that displays job cost and employee costs breakdowns.
